New Year’s Resolutions

December 29, 2010

With the end of 2010 fast approaching it is the time of year for us to be thinking about New Year’s resolutions.  The end of a year is a great time to reflect on the past year, and think about where you want to go in the year to come.  Setting attainable resolutions is a great way to ensure that you get to where you want to be in 2011.

The top 10 resolutions from last year were a bit surprising to me.  Let me know if the order or what they are is interesting or surprising to you too.

Top 10 Resolutions of 2009:

  1. Spend more time with family and friends
  2. Exercise more – Get active
  3. Lose weight
  4. Quit smoking
  5. Enjoy life more
  6. Quit drinking
  7. Get out of debt
  8. Learn something new
  9. Volunteer more
  10. Get organized

Most Americans make resolutions, but how many keep them?  A recent study indicated that only 12% will keep them.  In order to increase your odds of success you should make sure your goal(s) are realistic and can be measured.  If you want to spend more time with family and friends, that is a very vague goal.  If you make a goal to spend 2 more hours with friends and family a week it gives you are clear amount to shoot for, and you will easily know if you are reaching it or not.
